To The Chief Legal Adviser.

1)

I made

SUBSIDIARY REPORT ON THE RECORDS AND LIBRARY

OF THE SUPREME COURT

brief examination of the books and documents

belonging to the Supreme Court which are now lying in one of the buildings of the Hongkong University. The catalogue

of this collection discloses a list of what is described as

Cases determined in the Supreme Court of Hongkong". As the rooms were in a very untidy state, and as my time was limited, I could not ascertain what these volumes were. However, they ust be either the Judge's notes in respect of the various jurisdictions or merely lists of cases which have come up for hearing before the various Courts. Whatever they are, they will be useful, and therefore the picture painted by Mr. Hazelrigg in paragraph 3 (a) of his report is not as gloomy as it would at first appear to be.

2)

There is definitely no trace of any other records such as the Probate files, Bankruptcy files and Company files.

3)

For your information, I have located a set of Government Gazettes for 1941. They are apparently the property of the Fung Ping Shen Library and I am negotiating for their

transfer to the Supreme Court.

4) I return herewith copy of Mr. Hazelrigg's report and the Hongkong Library Catalogue (Supreme Court Collection).
